MELROSE TV SHOW
CUSTOM BUILD CANOPIES
We were contacted by a London based production company to see if we would be able to help them out with a new Sky TV series, Melrose, which was going to be getting part filmed in Glasgow.
As the scenes that were getting filmed in Glasgow is meant to look like swanky uptown New York in 1982 they needed large walkway canopies, also known as an approach canopy or awning. There was 2 separate sites being used for different scenes in the TV show, so we had to attend site and survey both sites.
Another issue was that each site was a privately owned property as thus we had to supply a free standing canopy that looked like a fixed free standing approach canopy. Thanks to our expertise in the awning and canopy trade spanning back 50 years we were able to advise the production company on how we would go about this.
They were happy with our proposal as were Glasgow City council, who had to confirm everything was satisfactory. We then got everything underway for the 2 dates that we had been given. Both sites had separate filming days, but they only had 4 hours of filming agreed on each day, so we had to ensure everything would be installed in the morning and then removed again by the evening.
All of this had to go ahead smoothly without affecting their filming schedule. Everything went as planned and we completed the project at the end of October 2017.
The TV show went on air in late 2018 on Sky Atlantic. So keep an eye out for our handy work appearing on your TV shortly! And if anyone wants to own a piece of historic TV memorabilia, it is possible as we still have the canopy in our factory.
